Just got back from a really great trip with family and friends in Arkansas. Mountain View, AR is known to be the Folk Music Capital of the world. Although we were in “Outlaw” Country with confederate flags flying everywhere, there was lots of time to be with family, entertain the nephews, catch up on outdoor activities and creating sonic pleasures for everyone’s ears.
On this recent trip, I got a chance to bring a newly acquired Roland TB03 to play with. Roland’s TB303 bassline synthesizer was made to simulated the bass guitar but failed and was discontinued. Instead, it was adopted by many emerging electronic music artist in the 80’s and 90’s. The TB03 is the updated version of Roland’s famous 1981 TB303 that allowed genres like Acid House, Chicago House and Techno to flourish. One of my most favorite featuring the TB303 is Josh Wink’s Higher State of Consciousness released in 1995.
I am mostly looking forward to showcasing my record collection at Public Records. The new establishment has a Hi-Fi cafe, bar with a “sound room.” The space offers and showcases rare vinyl collections and collectors, thoughtfully conceived food/beverage menu, vegan cafe and retail shop. I will be playing there on Thursday July 18, from 6-8pm so please save the date an say hey!
In other news, I’ve taken a look back on all the tracks that I’ve been writing and there are about 9 or 10 tracks out of probably 50 that will see the light of day in the next year. I will be taking the TB03 and a red secondhand Series10 guitar found at an Arkansas antique shop for $50 to record with and start incorporating into my upcoming releases. Thank you everyone for supporting me.
As promised, the playlist below was inspired by everyone’s feedback with all tracks from my vinyl collection. I will be updating the same playlist with 15-20 tracks each month with this newsletter. Some notable tracks just added is, ‘Heart of Gold’ by Neil Young from 1972, the deep house track, ‘Luv Dancin’ by Underground Solution, and David Bowie’s ‘Suffragette City’ also released in 1972. All tracks are part of my current vinyl collection that has influenced me through my life.
You can always find me here on the 4th Thursday of the Month playing anything from Garage, House, RnB, and old/new music from across the board. I’ve curated this monthly since 2015 for traveling and local DJs to play their newest tunes and to gain more exposure while giving me an opportunity to catch up with friends that I don’t get to see often. Trophy Bar is a Williamsburg staple that does great food and drinks with a nice backyard.
This is outofprint’s monthly show on Montez Press Radio. On the show, I focus on my vinyl collection that I’ve acquired on my travels and expose listeners to rare pressings of Classic House, Garage, Disco and rare and obscure sounds from the past. The studio is always open to visitors to experience radio in the making, so please stop by.
Having the opportunity to play some tunes in Bushwhick’s home Techno venue. I’ve missed a few in the past, but happy to be back to set the vibe for the club on Fridays. This is very early for Bossa, when it’s usually known for late night “Denning.” Please come and have a cocktail before your night starts and say hey if this is your hood.
The Gowanus has a new happening spot called Public Records which occupies an old animal shelter. Outofprint Recordings is happy to host and curate 2 hours of vinyl focused sounds for their happy hour, where they will be serving small plates and a dinner menu.
